Death Valley – Day 1

Death Valley – Day 1

We departed Bridgeport, CA at 9 am sharp and headed south to Furnace Creek National Park campground via Bishop and Lone Pine.  Hwy 190 is a beast! Miles and miles of 8 and 9% grades and sharp corners and steep drop offs.

Majority of people on the various RV forums said they would never drive it again 😀  in hindsight I can see why.  Uphill wasn’t bad but the long downhill is a challenge to keep brakes from catching fire.  We did fine using the trucks exhaust brake… Today is the first time we got to appreciate the beast-mode of the truck.  In one word… Awesome!

We are staying at the Furnace Creek National Park campground which is just now starting to open for peek season since it’s like 150 degrees here most of the summer lol

We left Bridgeport at 15 degrees this am and arrived the campground at 92 degrees!

Very peaceful and not busy at all.  We got the last pull-thru site with full service (50 amp).  Time to start running the AC units.

Planning to stay there until Thursday and do some exploring and snake hunting 😂
